Manchester United Make World Record Bid for Gareth Bale

Rumours linking Real Madrid star Gareth Bale with a move to Manchester United will just not go away and one of the latest reports suggest the Premier League giants have had a bid turned down.

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope claim the Red Devils made a world record (£100m) bid for the Welsh international attacker, only to see it dismissed out of hand by the Madrid hierarchy. The two clubs continue to fight over the futures of David de Gea and Sergio Ramos, but it seems a new front could be opened up in the summer transfer wars.

Bale was the subject of heavy criticism from the Madrid fans last season, as Los Blancos ended the season empty handed. Despite this, new manager Rafa Benitez wants Bale to play a prominent role in his new-look side next season.
